The Murder City Devils - Empty Bottles Broken Hearts

The Murder City Devils are a punk band from Seattle that formed in 1996. Lead by Spencer Moody, the band attained a huge following after extensive touring in 1998 and the release of the full length CD, 'Empty Bottles Broken Hearts'. They played many legendary venues across the US such as The Showbox in Seattle, Maxwells in NJ, CBGB's in NYC, Al's Bar in LA plus countless others right up until their brief hiatus back in 2001. Most recently they've played occasional shows on the west coast and just last week played the Nokia Theater in NYC. Though they haven't yet announced officially that they reunited, at the end of their set on Dec 30, 2009 at The Showbox in Seattle, keyboardist Leslie Hardy confirmed that the band was indeed working on new material. No additional information was given. After the set finished, the band returned to the stage and performed a cover of The Birthday Party's song, "Several Sins." This seemed to be a hint toward the new material on the way.

Back to the release, 'Empty Bottles Broken Hearts' has to be one of the most unique and original punk cd's I've listened to in a real long time. It's full of distortion, filth and stories pertaining to sex, angst, addiction, homelessness, and loneliness. It's consistent throughout and keeps getting better and louder after each track, with pure raw energy. Songs like "I want a lot now" and "Cradle to the grave" never seem to let up in terms of adrenaline. And "18 Wheels" and "Ready for more" are staples in their live sets. Be sure to seek out this album as it's a must have for any MCD fan.

Check out some shots of their CBGB show back in 2001 below, and be sure to peep their website for more information and their flickr for some great shots of them live and beyond.

Supreme Spring/Summer '10

Last night Supreme unveiled their Spring/Summer line for the 2010 season with lots and lots of goods and various colorways that are pretty legit. It's not their best drop, but definitely a few items caught my attention such as the orange & gray 'warm-up zip hoodie' and that green 'm-51 field jacket'. Honestly though, there is a small loss of originality points in some part due to becoming slightly repetitive with items and styles, but Supreme will never fail (nor care) since they sit atop of their game. And those nunchucks are so boss!

The Spring/Summer collection will be available March 4th at their NY/LA stores and March 6th in Japan. The online shop will drop on Thursday, March 11th. For more info and to view the rest of the collection, click here.

Definitely maybe...

Considered candidate.

The Nightimer Mix

New week, new mix. Well, not new actually. This was done back in 2005. But it's definitely one of the better ones I've produced. Recorded straight from vinyl, it's filled with double-disc tricks, scratches, windbacks and a few other stunts I conjured up. 'The Nightimer' mix consists of mostly instrumental hip-hop, downtempo, trip-hop and glitch/idm. It's got a great pace throughout which picks up right from the very first track. You'll hear rarities from Prefuse 73, DJ Shadow, Five Deez, Portishead, Aphex Twin, Secret Frequency Crew, RJD2, DJ Food plus countless others.

Download it here.

South Of The Border

Can you imagine being in a flea market out in Guanajuato, Mexico and running into the famously stolen build from Lance Armstrong's bike shop Mellow Johnny's, the Trek Equinox TTX SSL!? It's been missing since November, stolen straight from the shop in Austin, TX. Just recently the $10,000 build was spotted in perfect condition without the wheels, for sale at a mexican flea market and sold to someone (for much less of course) which took it to a local bicycle shop where it was identified and returned, and everybody in the end was happy...even the thief I'm sure! Looks like the goods are definitely across the border. Makes you wonder what else one can find in those parts. Read more about it here.
